Argument in the real world: letters to the editor and PSAs

Argument in the real world: letters to the editor and PSAs
Product Description
In this project, students create a letter to the editor and a public service announcement (PSA) about a cause they care about. At the end, they present their cause, a summary of their letter, and their PSA to the class.

This project is awesome for Common Core, as it covers a range of tasks including reading informational text, writing in different contexts, speaking and listening, and demonstrating an understanding of language!

A Prezi introduces students to the project and guides them through it, with slides for examples and instructions. Supporting materials (an assignment sheet and rubric, a planning guide, and a partner/self evaluation) are included.

With download, you receive the link to the hidden Prezi and the files in both PDF and Word, making it possible to completely customize this project! Add in specific deadlines, turn-in instructions, or other details.

I do this assignment with sophomores after studying the rhetorical devices of logos, ethos and pathos. I have also done it with seventh graders after studying persuasive techniques like bandwagon, humor and fear. It was successful for both age groups!
