This is an argumentative essay graphic organizer. I created this to help scaffold the process of writing an argumentative essay for students who might be struggling with organization and where to begin their essay. It includes a mini-lesson/review on the characteristics of an effective argumentative claim as well as an empty graphic organizer for students to fill in. To assist students who are struggling, I often teach them a strategy that helped me in my graduate studies to become a teacher: I have students pull the quotes they would like to use (a minimum of three) to form their arguments around. This way, they have something written down and it can help release students from the grips of writer's block! The organizer contains three boxes for students to write in key quotes as textual evidence for their essay.
