This presentation introduces the three parts an introductory paragraph in a text-based argumentative essay: Lead, Background Information, and Thesis Statement. There are 27 fully-animated slides, including a definition for each component and a visual depicting how they are organized. It presents seven different lead techniques (see the preview for a list), and includes two examples of each as well as a non-example. It also includes a game-type element where students are challenged to identify which type of lead is shown. All seven types are depicted in this portion of lesson. At the end of the presentation, students are challenged to try their own hand at writing three different types of leads, and finally to write an introduction. Free resources are available at my store to facilitate this step of the lesson. I use this lesson in conjunction with my Argumentative Essay Packet. This presentation is editable, so you can adapt it to your needs.
