I made this rubric for my seventh graders who are learning how to write argumentative essays. This rubric is geared towards students who are just learning the process of writing an argumentative essay. It has a simple format with which the teacher can assess whether students' work falls under the category of "excellent," "acceptable," or "try again." I used this format, because I do not want my students to submit anything less than acceptable writing. If they do, they must get additional instruction from me and then rewrite their paper so that it meets the "acceptable" requirements. There are 100 total points in this rubric, making it easy to calculate a student's percentage.
