Description

Reduce your stress with these reference sheets that you can give to your middle school students to refer to when they are writing a text-based essay in class! Print and copy each of these sheets to create a writing portfolio or writing toolkit!

What's Included:

★ A Writing Process Infographic

★ An argumentative essay outline with sentence starters

★ An argumentative essay outline that does not have sentence starters

★ FOUR essay planning sheets

★ An Argumentative Essay Skeleton

★ List of Evidence Sentence Starters

★ List of Commentary Sentence Starters

★ List of Introduction, Counterclaim & Call to Action Sentence Starters

★ List of Transitions for First, Second, Third, Conclusion & Internal Transitions

You'll see I use a special mnemonic to help students remember the structure of an essay:

✓Introduction: HAT (just like you put a hat on the top of your head, you put a hat on the top of your essay)

✓Body: ACEIT (Ace it) or ACEIIT (the extra I is for insert counterclaim)

✓Counterclaim: FAUCET (To 'turn it up')

✓Conclusion: ATT (what’s the last thing you make sure you have before your leave the house ?– your phone – your AT&T! – ok, not everyone has AT&T but the students get the idea!)

My students appreciated having these reference sheets in their own writing folders so they always had something with which to refer. I hope this toolkit helps your students as much as it did mine!
