Argumentative Writing is mandated by Common Core State Standards. There are some major differences between argumentative writing and persuasive writing, the biggest of which is using actual evidence from a source to support an argument. These organizers help students to understand the requirements of an argumentative paper and ensures they cite textual evidence to support their argument.
FOUR DIFFERENT ORGANIZERS ARE INCLUDED to provide for multiple options to meet the needs of any classroom.
The organizers include:
* An introduction paragraph
* A claim
* Reasons to support the claims
* Body paragraphs
* Transitions for both body paragraphs and the conclusion
* Reminder checklists to ensure body paragraphs and conclusion
paragraphs are complete
* A conclusion paragraph.
Each body paragraph asks students to give a claim, support the claim with text evidence, and then explain the evidence. All paragraphs require students to start with a lead and end with a conclusion sentence.
Two different rubrics are also included. One rubric allows for students to evaluate their own paper along with teacher input. The second rubric only has teacher input in the grade.
Please note: This organizer only applies up to sixth grade as it does NOT ask students to include a counterargument, which IS required for 7th and 8th grade.
If you would like an organizer for 7-8th grade with counterclaims included, please see my product here:
