This is the third packet in the series of Argumentative Writing, Topic: Social Media. This packet focuses on the writing of an Argumentative Essay. Since our students have different learning styles, we have included a variety of graphic organizers, outlines and rubrics that students can use to engage them in the writing process.
An Argumentative Essay is made up of 5 paragraphs, including the introduction, body paragraph one, body paragraph two, counterclaim paragraph and conclusion. This packet includes every step necessary to writing a coherent and cohesive argumentative essay.
We included a basic outline with two graphic organizers. Students have found our Four Square Graphic Organizer to be very helpful because they are able to recreate this graphic organizer on their own when a graphic organizer is not provided to them by their teachers. We've also included a model of a completed graphic organizer, argumentative essay and rubric to show students what is expected of them.
Each paragraph has also been broken down, allowing students to record information from previous packets into the outline. Students will use all of this information to write a coherent and comprehensive essay. The newly designed Argumentative Writing Rubric allows students to self monitor their progress while writing their own essay, as well as a rubric for peers to review.
We have also included a Lesson Plan to go along with this Packet. The Lesson Plan breaks down the packet into mini lessons, group work, guided practice and independent work. The Lesson Plan is intended to give you step by step directions as to how you can present this packet to your students.
We hope you find these packets useful and a great way to target a variety of goals within one lesson.
Our previous packet (Argumentative Writing Topic Social Media Packet #2) focused the students attention on writing the Counterclaim paragraph. This packet will expect students to include that information in their graphic organizers and formal essay.
Our Argumentative Writing Topic Social Media Packet #1 focused the students attention on defining unfamiliar vocabulary terms related to the Social Media topic. It also focused students attention on gathering evidence needed to write a claim with supporting evidence and counterclaim with supporting evidence.
