This graphic organizer was created to use with an editorial or persuasive letter. The new ELA Common Core standards now call this "argumentative writing". This graphic organizer starts out requiring that the author consider their audience, their audience's needs, and support for the author's feelings on the topic. Page 2 of this organizing tool allows students to brainstorm up to four reasons to support their "argument" on a specific topic. They also are asked to find evidence to support each reason and consider what their audience might say in rebuttal to each reason.
This graphic organizer has been used in both seventh and eighth grade classrooms in preparation for writing a persuasive letter or editorial: argumentative pieces. When students moved into the drafting phase of The Writing Process, this tool provided a basic outline for their rough draft.
