Challenge your students to think deeply with Arithmagons. As long as your students can add whole numbers up to 30, then they can work mathematically to solve these simple yet complex problems. Students are given a group of sums and without using the same number twice have to find the numbers that add together to equal those sums.
Included with this product are instructions on how to organise the task with your class, an activity sheet with 3 tasks that require increasingly deep levels of thinking from the students and a mat with number discs for students who would benefit from physically manipulating the numbers. Also included are suggestions for how to guide student thinking so they can discover the answers for themselves.
This lesson works equally well with students who have had plenty of experience solving problems as it does with students who have never tried creative problem solving before. It works well as a whole class lesson (or two) or as a task centre activity. It also works as a great lead into algebra.
