Description
Arithmetic & Geometric Sequences TEKS Aligned: A12C, A12D
Included are two double-sided notes pages over arithmetic & geometric sequences using function notation. These notes are written to introduce arithmetic & geometric sequences to the beginning algebra 1 student. Each concept is covered in a separate double-sided notes page.
On both sets of notes, the notes begin by using patterns of numbers to introduce the topic. The student identifies the next number in the sequence and then describes the pattern. Next, the definition is introduced and the linear function equation or exponential function and notation are explained.
On both sets of notes, four examples follow where the student is given the sequence and is asked to identify the first term, the common difference and the explicit equation, written in function form, that would generate the sequence. Two more examples follow where the student uses a given formula written in function notation and generates the first four terms of a sequence.
On both sets of notes, the back explains arithmetic sequences or geometric sequences written as recursive functions. The student is given a recursive formula and is asked to find the first four terms of the sequence. To help expedite this process a table of steps is filled in. Key included.
