**TASK CARDS**

●**Tasks 1-12 ** ... are **Arithmetic Sequence problems. **

Students will practice identifying the first term and the common

difference in the sequence, writing the explicit formula of a given

arithmetic sequence, using a formula to find a specific term, the number

of terms, and other variations of the General Formula.

●**Tasks 13-22 ** … are **Arithmetic Series problems**. Students will practice finding the

sum of an arithmetic sequence, using a formula to find the sum of a specific

number of terms, the number of terms, and other variations of the Summation

Formula. Tasks 21 and 22 require solving a system of linear equations using the

arithmetic sequence formula for the nth term and the formula for the sum the first n

terms.

●**Tasks 23-25** … are **complex problems** that require using both formulas - the

arithmetic sequence formula for the nth term and the formula for the sum the first n

terms.

●**Task 26** … asks students to determine if sequences are arithmetic or not when

given their explicit formulas.

**WORD PROBLEMS**

These 16 task cards feature arithmetic sequence related**real-life word problems with multiple choice, accompanied by pictures.** The activity includes word problems with varying levels of difficulty that help students to practice how to solve real-life problems involving arithmetic sequence and challenge them at the same time.

○**Tasks 1-5** ... are** elementary word problems** requiring 1 or 2 steps, often just

substituting known values in a formula. To answer them, students should be

familiar how to use the arithmetic sequence formula for the nth term and how to

sum the first n terms.

○**Tasks 6-10** … are **medium difficulty word problems** requiring more than 2 steps.

They are not so typical, and require a bit of invention. To answer them, students

should be familiar how to use the arithmetic sequence formula for the nth term

and how to sum the first n terms.

○**Tasks 11-14** … are **higher difficulty word problems**, as they require solving a

system of linear equations using the arithmetic sequence formula for the nth term

and the formula for the sum the first n terms.

○**Tasks 15-16** … are two word problems that ask students to apply arithmetic

sequence knowledge when**finding the lengths of the sides of a triangle.**

Because from my experience the critical step is to be able to identify or extract known values from the word problem, I also included a**more detailed answer sheet and answer key** at the end of this set. It requires students to record into it all of the known values, as well as the values they were required to find, for each individual word problem.
