Designed for IB Math SL Topic 1.1, this PowerPoint presentation walks students through the process of developing a formula for finding the sum of an arithmetic series. It then includes teacher examples and practice problems for students to try. After some practice, students will learn how to change the mode of the GDC (IB terminology for graphing calculator) for use with sequences and series. The presentation concludes “Ticket Out the Door” assignment that challenges students to create their own arithmetic series word problem. I have found students to be very creative with this!
