Includes Arizona State Animal Informational Text!
Scissoring is an important skill! In order to use scissors correctly, children need sufficient finger and hand strength and stability, sufficient development of the hand arches, hand–eye coordination, bilateral integration skills (using both hands together) and the ability to cross the midline. All of these same skills also contribute to the development of handwriting
so they are of particular importance during Preschool and Kindergarten. Remember, keep your thumb up while scissoring!
Choose an Arizona animal, read the informational text to your students, and discuss the animal. Then print an animal scissoring sheet for each student and have them color and scissor the animal, reviewing the new information they have learned. It is a super no prep Center that supports your Arizona Unit!
This is a wonderful tool to help develop fine motor skills while your students learn about Arizona animals. Animals included:
- Apache Trout – state fish
- Arizona Tree Frog – state amphibian
- Cactus Wren – state bird
- Ridge-nosed Rattlesnake – state reptile
