Pages 3-5: Amazing Word Cards
Pages 6-10: Spelling Word and Challenge Word Cards
Pages 11-13: Word Wise (I print the word cards out and laminate them). Students choose six words and write them down. Draw a line down the middle of the words to divide the base words and the suffixes. Write a sentence for each word.
Pages 14-16: Word Work: (I print the word cards out and laminate them). Students write eight words from the word cards. Say them aloud. Circle the suffixes -ly, -ful, -ness, -less, -able, and –ible.
Pages 17-18: Let’s Write! (I hang up the formal letter poster to help students remember what a formal letter is). Students write a news article with a headline about an event in your school. Be sure to answer the questions who, what, where, when, why, and how.
Pages 19: Words To Know: Students find four unknown words in magazines, newspapers, or books. List them and look up their meanings. Write sentences using each word.
Page 20: Read For Meaning: Students read a Leveled Reader. Write a sentence stating a generalization based on it. Write story details to support your generalization.
Page 21: I included a portion of Around One Cactus for students to read for fluency.
