In this unit you will find materials for five different life cycles. The life cycles that are covered in this unit are ant, butterfly, chicken, frog and mealworm.
There are a few different materials that you will find at your fingertips to help you teach your students about life cycles. I have made teaching posters for each of the life cycles as well as provided you with a definition of life cycle and metamorphosis.
There are also worksheets to be completed as a way to assess your students understanding of the changes living things go through.
I have made 5 ribbon craftivities to display each life cycle. All the templates are included in both color and black and white. To add to your craft I have made each stage of the animal or insect in the life cycle on cards to add to the ribbon. It will be a great display for your classroom!
In addition I have added text for all 5 animals/insects. You can use them as research resources or just for your knowledge. They are just an added resource for you and your studnets.
Last, as a fun way for your students to show what they learned in life cycles I like to let them do a little writing! We make “A Diary Of A “______” book! I use the Diary Of A Spider, Worm, and Fly book series written by Doreen Cronin to help kick off the activity! I have included a character selection planning guide, an eight day storyboard planning sheet, diary template pages, about the writer page and teaching posters for speech and thought bubbles. This is a great writing and science connection!
This unit is tons of science fun with a little writing on the side! I hope you enjoy making as well as learning about how all these animals/insects grow and change.
