Unit Overview: IT WON’T DISAPOINT!!!
This unit was designed with the idea of Universal Design where all students can participate. Activities are based on curriculum standards in Manitoba for the Grade 2 and 3 but align with many curriculums and Common Core Standards. Activities have been designed around different multiple intelligences
Students will learn basic information from 6 different places: Canada, USA (Hawaii), Israel, China, The Congo, and Mexico. There is a fact sheet for each place as well as suggested lessons with accompanying worksheets. Then in all but 2 places there are independent stations for each place. There is a station card that kids can read on their own and follow the directions!
Learn about tipi’s, renewable and non-renewable resources, jobs (related to where every you live) and weather (where you live)
Learn about the giant panda and compare to animals in your lives, learn about imports and exports, learn about the legend of the Koi and build a windsock! (Science link)
Hawaii (USA) Learn about pineapple plants, Luau’s, and how volcanoes are formed, build a Polynesian drum and dig in sand!
Israel: Learn about bartering and belief and relate it to your own
Mexico: Learn about food chains and design a Mexican community using 2-D and 3-D shapes
Congo: Learn about and play cultural games, learn about the water cycle!
