The attached file is a week-long lesson plan designed to go with the first grade Common Core Curriculum Map Unit "Around the World with a Glass Slipper." In my progression, this would be week 1 and does include the traditional version of Cinderella; however they do not have to be taught all together or in this particular order. I have laid out the entire unit by region; these are the stories from Europe. This lesson plan is a 5 day plan along with a student packet with a cover page and eight student activity pages. There is also a link to Brainpopjr.com if you have access to it. I have included both PDF and Word versions of each document if you would like to make changes to them.
The plans include: focus standards, vocabulary, essential questions, I can statements and technology links.
The focus standards are:
RL.1.5 Explain major differences between books that tell stories and books that give information, drawing on a wide reading of a range of text types.
RL.1.9 Compare and contrast the adventures and experiences of characters in stories.
RL.1.3 Describe characters, settings, and major events in a story, using key details.
RI.1.5 Know and use various text features to locate key facts or information in a text
In these lessons, students will learn that there are seven continents and be able to identify the continent that they live in as well as Europe. They will read about Europe, and more specifically, France, Germany and Ireland. They will learn information about these countries and read versions of Cinderella from each. They will compare and contrast the stories they read as well as fill in graphic organizers to show their understanding and recall information.
The books I used for the lesson are (these could be changed)
Europe by Madeline Donaldson
DK First Atlas
Cinderella by Marcia Brown
Princess Furball by Charlotte Huck
The Irish Cinderlad by Shirley Climo
