The attached file is a week-long lesson plan designed to go with the first grade Common Core Curriculum Map Unit "Around the World with a Glass Slipper." In my progression, this would be week 4 however they do not have to be taught all together or in this particular order. I have laid out the entire unit by region; this is the stories from North America. The stories are from cultures in Mexico, Canada and the United States. This lesson plan is a 5 day plan along with a student packet with a cover page and six student activity pages. There is also a link to Brainpopjr.com if you have access to it. I have included both PDF and Word versions of each document if you would like to make changes to them.
The plans include: focus standards, vocabulary, essential questions, I can statements and technology links.
The focus standards are:
RL.1.3 Describe characters, settings, and major events in a story, using key details
RL.1.9 Compare and contrast the adventures and experiences of characters in stories.
RI.1.1 Ask and answer questions about key details in a text.
This week students will read a nonfiction text about North America and be able to located the three major countries on a map. They will learn about the Mexican, Algonquin, and Pueblo cultures and read versions of Cinderella based in each. They will compare these cultures and stories.
The books I used for the lesson are (these could be changed)
North America by Madeline Donaldson
The Rough-Face Girl by Rafe Martin
Adelita: A Mexican Cinderella Story by Tomie dePaola
The Turkey Girl: A Zuni Cinderella Story by Penny Pollock
