The attached file is a week-long lesson plan designed to go with the first grade Common Core Curriculum Map Unit "Around the World with a Glass Slipper." In my progression, this is week 5. This is a culmination of all of the books read and countries studied during the previous four weeks. I based the student packet on the versions of Cinderella I used during the first four weeks, however you could change them easily to fit the books that you have. This lesson plan is a 5 day plan along with a student packet with a cover page, graphic organizers to record information from each book read; a page to organize thoughts for your writing, writing and publishing sheet. I have included both PDF and Word versions of each document if you would like to make changes to them.
The plans include: focus standards, vocabulary, essential questions, and I can statements.
The focus standard is:
W.1.1 Write opinion pieces in which they introduce the topic or name the book they are writing about, state an opinion, supply a reason for the opinion, and provide some sense of closure.
This week students will reflect on the versions of Cinderella they have read during the first part of this unit. They will compile information about the book and the country of origin and they will write an opinion piece about their favorite.
The books I used for the previous lessons are:
Cinderella by Marcia Brown
Princess Furball by Charlotte Huck
The Irish Cinderlad by Shirley Climo
Mufaro’s Beautiful Daughters by John Steptoe
The Egyptian Cinderella by Shirley Climo
The Korean Cinderella by Shirley Climo
Yeh-Shen: A Cinderella Story from China retold by Ai-Ling Louie
The Rough-Face Girl by Rafe Martin
Adelita: A Mexican Cinderella Story by Tomie dePaola
The Turkey Girl: A Zuni Cinderella Story by Penny Pollock
