The attached file is a week-long lesson plan designed to go with the first grade Common Core Curriculum Map Unit "Around the World with a Glass Slipper." In my progression, this would be week 3 however they do not have to be taught all together or in this particular order. I have laid out the entire unit by region; this is the stories from Asia. This lesson plan is a 5 day plan along with a student packet with a cover page and seven student activity pages. There is also a link to Brainpopjr.com if you have access to it. I have included both PDF and Word versions of each document if you would like to make changes to them.
The plans include: focus standards, vocabulary, essential questions, I can statements and technology links.
The focus standards are:
RL.1.9 Compare and contrast the adventures and experiences of characters in stories.
RL.1.1 Ask and answer questions about key details in a text.
RI.1.1 Ask and answer questions about key details in a text.
Throughout this 5 day unit, students will learn about the continent of Asia, read a nonfiction text about Asia and answer comprehension questions about it. Students should be able to identify the continent that they live it as well as Europe, Africa and Asia (if you have not done the other lessons prior to this week, you can remove the other continent directions from that page). Students will learn about Chinese history and contributions to our world. They will learn about Korea from online sources and read Yeh-Shen and The Korean Cinderella and be able to answer questions about each. They will complete a graphic organizer and be able to compare and contrast them.
The books I used for the lesson are (these could be changed)
Asia by Madeline Donaldson
DK First Atlas (optional, but used in my other lessons)
The Korean Cinderella by Shirley Climo
Yeh-Shen: A Cinderella Story from China retold by Ai-Ling Louie
Look What Came from China by Miles Harvey
