The canine crew of The Barker will get your students ship shape to learn multiplication. Three different activities are included in this package of array activities:
JOLLY ROGER ARRAYS
Students look at arrays of pirate themed objects and express the number represented as a sum of equal addends and a multiplication sentence. A correct answer allows them to roll the die, move on the game board, and possibly add a crew member to their ship. Be on the lookout for treasure cards and beware the empty treasure chest! A recording sheet is included for student accountability. Includes answer key.
TREASURE HUNT CHALLENGE
Play as ARRAY AHOY! But use the array challenge cards, which require students to complete a variety of tasks—forming arrays, interpreting arrays as repeated addition or multiplication, comparing arrays, using arrays to solve word problems and more. Includes answer key.
BATTLE OF THE PIRATES
This is a variation of the classic card game “War” or “Top-It”, with students comparing the value of arrays to win crew members for their ship.
Package includes: game board, pirate ship playing mat, dog pirate markers to fill the ship, 36 array cards featuring pirate objects for representing arrays as repeated addition and multiplication sentences, 36 challenge cards (forming arrays, comparing arrays, solving word problems as arrays), treasure chest good/bad luck cards, array model and bone cards for creating arrays, student recording sheet and answer keys. You will need one standard die for some of the activities.
