This set of 20 task cards provides photographed examples of real life uses for arrays. Great for small group math centers, whole class scoot games, or math tubs! Addresses the second grade Common Core Standard for arrays. Could also be used for review in grade 3.
Two recording sheet options are included. The first asks students to record a repeated addition equation and to describe the array with the phrase “___ rows of ___”. Using the second option, students will record a repeated addition equation and a multiplication equation. Answer keys are provided. Use the two options to differentiate instruction or at different points in your unit.
Update: As of January 2017, a new activity page, which asks students to write a word problem about a given array task card, trade word problems with a partner, and solve, has been added. If you own this resource, please download the update to grab the extra page!
These activities address the following Common Core standard:
2.OA.C.4: Use addition to find the total number of objects arranged in rectangular arrays with up to 5 rows and up to 5 columns; write an equation to express the total as a sum of equal addends.
