Hello Teachers! Are you looking for an easy-to-implement, no-prep art project for around the New Year? If so, the Calendar Project is perfect! With this project, each student will create their own illustrated calendar that they can take home and use throughout the year, or use in the classroom to keep track of everything they have to do. This project is a wonderful resource to support the individual creativity of your students, and help support the life skill of long-term planning.
If you are not an art teacher, but are looking to spice up a lesson with some quick and easy arts-infusion, this is a fantastic resource for that as well. This project integrates very well will visual learning strategies for language arts, math, science and social studies. This project will be ready to implement immediately. Just print, copy and go! My students and I really love this project, and I hope yours will too!
Included in this resource:
- Implementation Guide
- Calendar pages for TWO Calendar Years: 2018 and 2019 (January through December)
- A Powerpoint Presentation to assist your students with idea generation
What you and your students will need:
- Copy machine (that can make double-sided copies and staple)
- Illustration utensils (pencils, crayons, colored pencils, etc.)
As a guide, in my classroom, I try to allow fourth grade students approximately 30 minutes per illustration. Including the cover page and back cover, there are 14 opportunities for design and illustration. If they create one drawing per day, this project stretches over three weeks of class. However, this project can easily be completed on much shorter or longer timescales depending on how you use it.
***Are you teaching for more than two years? Take advantage of the discounts I offer for FIVE year Calendar Projects!
***Prefer to do this project at the beginning of the school year? Check out my Calendar Projects that are aligned for August through July!
***Please note that the pages of the calendar are intentionally very plain to allow students to add their personal illustrations and creativity. This is an art project.***
