This is a great way to get kids collaborating and working together in art class (which we don't often do on many projects, so it's fun!)
It asks them to create a black and white VALUE drawing, using whatever materials they want and whatever subject matter they want. It's super open and allows for creativity.
...the only catch is that their drawing has to have a red LINE going through it.
This way, when all the artworks are finished, you can piece them together by having the red lines touching.
The final display is AMAZING! It shows how each student has a unique style and interest.
The final evaluation is for creativity in their design concept (the red line has to make sense as part of their concept) and for rendering of value.
I allow them to do it on black or white bristol board - so you'll have a mix for the final display.
This always creates a nice buzz around the school - students often want to display them going around a corner, and it looks fantastic.
Also included is a rubric to make evaluating easy!
