Art Deco was the art style between WWI and WWII in America. This was used as a quick Do Now to start off my 8th grade class, and then I pulled specific examples from my city to project onto the board. Most students were able to think of at least one example of Art Deco that they have personally seen, and liked the modern pop culture connections on the front.
This can be added to any Roaring 20s or Great Depression Unit!
As a fun extra credit option over break, I had students take selfies with Art Deco that they found around town, and then presented their photos in a Prezi when they returned. Students loved being showcased, and thought that it was cool to find history around them in their lives.
