This is a really fun drawing project that gets students to explore the difference between SHAPES (2D) and FORM (3D).
I do this as a follow-up project after I teach the Elements and Principles of design.
It gets them to do a drawing project using just arrows that are both 2D and 3D.
The project is broken down into 3 steps:
-They pick 3 colours and do value scales for each one (I get them to do this in their sketchbooks)
-They do two thumbnail mini drawings in their sketchbooks to play with compositional elements (overlapping, cropping, rotating etc.)
-They draw and colour their final artwork!
Students often ask to do different shapes other than arrows / include portraits / play with words - I keep it very open and free!
As long as they're experimenting with composition, shapes, and forms.
Also included is a rubric to help you mark it.
