It’s important for students to conduct their own art history research, but writing papers can feel tedious in an art classroom. Book writing and illustrating can provide a fun alternative to paper writing for high school students. For this assignment, students will begin by selecting an artwork by a famous artist. Next, they’ll conduct research to find out more about the artists they picked, which they will turn into narrative form. The students will create their own illustrations to go with the text.
This download includes four PDF files: the lesson plan, a complete example of the children’s book, a handout of questions to facilitate the research, and the project rubric.
