This Powerpoint lesson is an introduction for high school students to learn how to draw.
It covers all the different types of drawings - and teaches students about everything they need to know to start off a full drawing unit.
It covers the following types - wth tips, techniques, and practices along the way:
-"learning to see" through a warm-up upside down drawing
(has 2 options, one for juniors and one for senior grades)
-materials : the different types of pencils, erasers, tortillons/stumps
-value shading : value scales, mark-making techniques, smudging and not smudging
-observational drawings : looking at what they see, perspective, gris & crate methods to get proportions right
-contour drawings: what they are / why they're important, practices for the 6 main types, a shoe contour activity
-gesture drawings: what they are / how they're different from contours, a practice activity with a model from the class (can do different poses)
-drawing practice for homework: 4 contours, 3 gestures, 2 value, and one extra of their choice (includes a list of inspiration for things to draw from the student's home)
It's an interactive Powerpoint - so students copy all the notes in blue font, and do different practice drawings along the way.
They'll need their sketchbook, a variety of drawing pencils, erasers, and pencil crayons.
It can easily be split up over a week - by breaking it down into mini lessons, then having the students practice each type of drawing per period. It's super flexible and suitable for both junior and senior levels.
Hope it makes the drawing unit a little bit easier to get started!
Students enjoy it :)
