This is a great way to connect Science and Art.
Some artists are inspired by cells, bacteria, viruses and things seen under a microscope. Tiny things become more interesting when magnified. This Powerpoint slideshow contains 30 slides featuring artwork from more than 10 different artists who were inspired by microscopic things. Included are paintings, fibers, mixed media and even ceramic. Small amounts of age-appropriate information and thought-provoking questions are included to prompt discussion about the artwork.
After viewing the artwork, students can look through microscopes and draw what they see. Or, you can print out pictures of viruses and cells for the students to draw. How about creating one artwork that is realistic and one interpretation that is creative?
The file is included in both a PPT and PDF format, in case you have trouble opening one or the other.
