This is the first or second project we complete in art class in grades 9 and 10.
They do this after learning about the "Elements and Principles of art"
Students create an ART PORTFOLIO which we store in-class, to keep all their artworks that don't fit in their sketchbooks.
They're cheap! We make them out of two pieces of white bristol board, and clear packing tape, and the students use whatever materials they want to design it.
The project is really scaffolded, so they understand the creative process.
In their sketchbooks, before starting:
-They do a mindmap first (I make this the first two-page cover spread in their sketchbooks - they turn out fantastic! This also gets them working in their sketchbooks right off the bat, which is so important)
-They do 3 mini thumbnail sketches to play with composition and the elements and principles
-They create a list of materials they want to use
THEN they pick a final design for their portfolio.
- a rubric to make marking easy
-a MIND MAP POWERPOINT - to get them inspired
-THUMBNAIL DRAWINGS POWERPOINT(a key concept for the whole course)!
(everything you need to do this project - from start to finish)
Also in my shop!
