Welcome to the Smock Room!
This lesson integrates Modern Art with Geometry, building the skills of young students. Along with leaning about artist Ellsworth Kelly, first grade students use skills of identification, description and problem solving to create simple artworks in the style of Kelly. The lesson encourages the students to explore simple geometric shapes and the primary colors, through independent 'play', practicing the fundamental developmental art skills of tracing, cutting, coloring, painting, gluing, and a few more.
This lesson is used in my artroom but affords the classroom teacher the tools to guide their students through the instructional sequence. The power point provides the teacher a sequence to follow, printables, lesson plan and materials list.
