Kids will have fun with this map and monsters lesson. It was written with an art sub in mind, but can be taught by classroom teachers and art teachers as well.
It is a no prep lesson, which is so helpful for those days when you need an emergency sub plan. It's also great for those days you want something easy and fun to teach. The only supplies needed to teach the lesson are pencil, paper and crayons. Of course, you can adapt the lesson to any other supplies you prefer.
Students will see a variety of visuals from ancient maps and talk about the strange monsters that appear on them. They will also create original sea monsters on a map. It is an open ended lesson, so every student's work is unique.
This lesson may be projected or it may be printed out and read like a book. Everything that the teacher needs to tell the students is included in the script. Questions and directions are given as well.
