Symmetry and positive and negative space are the focus of this differentiation friendly art lesson. Students can use simple, basic shapes or shapes with intricate detail. The lesson can be extended to include an advanced discussion about the use and function of space in art work.
Construction paper, scissors and glue are the only materials needed for this activity. Prep is minimal, so it can be inserted into any schedule on a moment’s notice. It’s also a perfect activity to leave for a substitute.
Extend the learning by having students reflect in writing on their creating process.
