This is a 2 part art lesson/ project: a watercolor "workshop" and a landscape painting assignment. I developed this lesson to introduce my students to all the great techniques watercolor artists use like washes, wet on wet, adding salt, etc.
Included in these 5 pages are directions for the watercolor workshop class, a watercolor landscape painting assignment including a printable self-assessment sheet that students can fill out and you can assess and grade as you like, and several visual examples and inspiration of paintings with great use of watercolor techniques .
You will need knowledge of these basic techniques to guide students through the workshop portion: flat wash, graded wash, variegated wash, wet on wet, dry brush, scumbling, adding salt and rubbing alcohol; using crayon for resist and blotting/brushing with plastic wrap. I've included a link for great tutorials on techniques in the lesson. You can also search this link to get yourself ready if you need it!
This lesson and painting project is always one of my students' favorites.
