This low-prep art lesson is a great way to integrate math and visual arts in your classroom and practice your skip counting and multiplication skills at the same time. Students will skip count their way around a circle, creating a cool spiral masterpiece at the end. If you choose to do this activity in October, add a spider on top of your spiral for the perfect spooky art piece that will WOW your students.

Skip counting by 1s to 12s (or using multiples) is part of this activity. Use the vocabulary that best fits your students’ skills. You could also use it for patterning – Start at 0 and add 1; Start at zero and add 2, etc.

In this art lesson I have included a one page overview for the teacher, a review of the elements and principles of art demonstrated in this art piece, student reflection sheet, rubric, and full step-by-step illustrated instructions for the students. Completed examples are also included. The student reflection sheet and rubric are included in full sheets as well as half sheets to save paper.

This activity can be completed with fine tip markers or pencil crayons. The actual lesson can be completed in less than an hour, however, some students may require more time to complete the steps.
