This lesson presentation demonstrates how to create a "Rainbow Rooster" by showing students ways in which simple shapes like circles, triangles, and letter shapes can be combined to create a complex shape, such as a rooster. After the drawing is completed, students will experiment with watercolor paints and a crayon resist.
The easy-to-use PDF presentation format allows you to scroll through step-by-step project directions that include detailed photographs that guide students along the way.
Also Included in the presentation are images of student examples and a 3-2-1 assessment prompt.
This project has been classroom-tested for second and third grade and completed in two 45-minute class periods. The student roosters often have a lot of personality and character, making it a great project for bulletin boards. I often pair this with landscapes for a farm-themed unit.
If you prefer a PowerPoint-style document, please contact me via my TpT store and I will send you a link to the Google Docs Presentation file. I prefer the PDF version if you do not have a Google account because it keeps the fonts and images intact.
