Teach your students about:
-Factors that influence Art from different times
-Appreciation of the role of Art from different times
-Exploration of Artworks from different times and the influences on their own artwork
And how these were applied during the Art Deco and Art Nouveau movement. A simple and easy to understand explanation of three of the influencing factors to these Art movements, with several discussion questions to be applied to your choice of Art Deco and Nouveau artworks.
This Art History sheet is by no means an exhaustive list of influences, rather, it gives 3 different ones from different times in the Art Deco and Art Nouveau periods that I think are easy for students to understand.
A printable PDF page with 3 easy points and discussion questions for your students to read and discuss in relation to an Art Deco or Art Nouveau lesson. Includes some motifs inspired by the influences listed, which students can colour when they are done. It also could be used as a compare and contrast - these two Art movements have some easy to understand similarities and differences.
Understanding influences is foundational for students to realize how an artist's context can guide their work. This handout shows how the discovery of King Tut, or a return to simple Arts and crafts inspired a whole era!
Use this task as an introduction to Art Deco and Art Nouveau, and ask students to choose an influence as an inspiration! Include it in a workbook or as a teacher information sheet!
