Portrait art is a perennial favourite lesson in classrooms around the world. Here is a lesson plan with a twist. Two art styles are referenced that help to distract students from fussing over resemblance and instead have fun with unusual techniques. Option 1 explores POP art styles including Lichtenstein and benday dot patterns, option 2 explores Expressionism with Modigliani. A range of media are covered - marker pens, water colour paint and oil pastels - regular supplies in most classrooms. Many opportunities are build into the lesson where students can add originality to their work and distinguish from others.
