This packet of 9 "OPEN ENDED" printable pages includes examples of contemporary art and Picasso. The pages are "Open Ended" which means the teacher "can" give his/her own directions before hand, discuss the elements and principles, or even make a powerpoint from the pictures. This is not a step-by-step group of activities. The principles can be done in any order.
Open Ended, is usually a STUDENT DIRECTED process, where they can draw their feelings, emotions, reactions to the art work in the blanks provided. They can choose to copy the designs, outlines the shapes/forms, or even just draw one aspect. Open ended is not assessed and there is no right or wrong. Just encourage active participation in some form. If you have questions please convo me.
The 8 Principles are the building blocks of art, using the art elements as tools. You will also find one pretest/post test for use.
9. A Pretest/Post Test

I teach art to ESL students. Most of my printables are open-ended for my students to experience success in Art and English. These are budget friendly. I would suggest printing in black and white, but showing the master on the overhead or Smart Board so the students can see the art works in color. The teacher can make this as simple or as complex as he/she wants. It all depends on your conversations with your students about the principles to encourage their understanding and awareness. My ESL students need more open ended resources, but as their language develops, they can absorb more information.
If you have any questions, please contact me. And, If you are unfamiliar with Open-Ended art activities, please download my free "Open-Ended Art is..." Remember, if you leave feedback for me, you can earn points towards free TPT lessons. And, I can know if your students liked it.
