This outer space art project goes perfectly with the theme of Wonder and kindness. Read the book We're All Wonders and talk about kindness, tolerance and the unique qualities of each person. We are all wonders. We can choose to see others as wonders too. We can choose to be kind.
In this project, your students will use chalk pastels and white paint on black paper to create a galaxy background. They will use the handouts to draw themselves as an astronaut. They can choose a pet to take along with them to outer space. After, the students can fill out a sheet explaining how they are a "wonder". With the writing and literature component, this is a great arts integration project.
