Art is ... Save the Vaquita Marina Endangered Porpoise (2 printable pages)
Open Ended Drawing Activities
The Vaquita Marina Porpoise is the most critically endangered species on the Earth. It is estimated that less than 30 specimins are living in the Gulf of California, their only home.
You will find 2 pages in this packet.
l. This page shows pictures of the Vaquita Marina with blanks for the students to color or draw. The bottom area shows a map of the Gulf of California to show their limited range of 900 square miles.
2. The black and white drawing is for the students to color with shading. The top of the porpoise is very dark grey and it gradually lightens up until the belly section which is white. The eyes are encircled with black rings and the lips also black. Students can shade this with a number 2 pencil. The coral at the gulf's bottom is red. Of course, students can free color as they wish to make an unusual drawing.
July 11th is "International Save the Vaquita" Day. Will the Vaquita become extinct? What do you think?
