This year our state rolled out the new evaluation system of TPGES and as an art teacher we were tasked with the job of developing a measurement system for our students. My colleague and I started with the new national standards and developed a list of the most important points we wanted arts students to develop. We came up the acronym of P.I.E.C.E. to stand for the stages of learning an art student goes through. Starting with planning, invoking, evaluate, connect and going on through evolving, students learn the importance of mastery each of the stair step ideas. The rubric on the bottom of the graphic is a chart of what the "accomplished" stage of each standard is. The visual is a wonderful tool to point out to students and a resource for those who need to physically need to see what they are doing to for each arts class they take.
