An imaginative creature will be created by combining drawings of a variety of art supplies. Two student handouts have been provided with drawings of various art supplies that may be used as reference. The students must select supplies that will come together visually to represent the body parts of their creature. The creature may resemble a robot, animal, or person as it emerges through placement of the art supply drawings. A descriptive writing assignment has also been included to extend the lesson one step further.
The material list for this lesson is uncomplicated and easy for a substitute teacher to manage. Pencils, erasers, colored pencils, and fine point black markers is all that is needed to create and complete this illustrative and imaginative drawing.
Preparing this lesson for a substitute teacher will take very little time. Just print the PowerPoint (be sure to print enough student handout copies), fill out the schedule/classroom information sheet, and print your attendance sheets. So very easy for an art teacher to prepare ahead of time for a planned absence or for those unexpected sick days.
