Art is ... Rubrics for use with National Core Art Standards (5 pages)
I have created 4 basic rubrics for use with the 4 National Core Art Standards of Creating, Performing, Responding and Connecting.
And, you will also receive one blank rubric that you can revise for your own needs. 5 total jpg's.
The National Core Art Standards are copyrighted and so I am using their guidelines and standards to make a rubric that is general enough for practical use in the art classroom. I cite "Fair Use" because these rubrics help the teacher and students assess progress and growth that is often helpful in a process orientated classroom. And, many districts are now following the National Core Arts Standards, so these rubrics may be of help.
Note that an art teacher does not have to have all 4 standards in one art lesson, a variety more often occurs. In fact, probably most art classes deal with Creating, and that rubric will be the most useful. Students can also assess their work using these rubrics. One can score by using numerics (0-4) or checkmarks or simply comments, it is up to you. Would it not be useful to use a picture reference of the work, attached to the back? Just an idea that your students could do with an ipad and printer.
I like these 4 rubrics because they can help the teacher stay on track, or assess their own progress in teaching the NCAS. I would personally go through each rubric, within one lesson (over time) and follow each standard to begin with. After I have taught my students how to assess themselves on all 4, I would feel confident to change/add/delete parts of the rubric depending on the project at hand.
