I absolutely love using this method to explain successful art to my elementary students (can be adapted for middle and HS). Basically, I tell my students that ART is like CAKE–and who doesn't like cake?!
The ELEMENTS OF ART are the ingredients.
The PRINCIPLES OF DESIGN are the recipes we use to organize the Elements.
The bowl is the PROCESS–painting, sculpture, collage, etc.
The cake is our ARTWORK on a plate--the plate says MEANING on it, because all great art has meaning beneath it!
This package comes with printables of the PROCESS artists use to make work, large enough to print and laminate for a bulletin board or to display as you teach a lesson.
The file is a PDF file that shows a bowl for mixing the elements and principles with the word PROCESS on it. This file should be printed, cut out and laminated. There is a line to cut a slit in the bowl so you can place the process being used (painting, drawing, sculpture, printmaking, collage) into the bowl as a visual reminder. Cards are also included that show each of the processes listed above.
This is a great tool to use for students to analyze art or to have a visual reminder of the art concepts and processes that they should be using in a project.
Please check out my shop to purchase/bundle all the cards to make a interactive board.
