Encourage your students to do sketches, even if they aren't perfect. They can practice drawing skills, shading, and observation. Sometimes we get so wrapped up in perfection but we can constructively criticize art work, especially our own. Students are often overly critical of their own work and think everyone else is so much better. By finding the flaws in this work, they can build their own analytical skills and write constructive criticism. Also, by looking at another drawing, rather than a perfect photograph, they can see how artistic works are subjective. Use in an interactive notebook, sketchbook or as a project/cover for a unit on Egypt.
