Graphic organizer that allows students to prepare for class discussions on given readings/texts/articles in order to generate whole-group or small-group discussions reflective of collegiate level responsibility and engagement.
Organizer contains to parts.
Part I: Discussion preparation that provides students a) room to jot down any questions they may have or quotes they find interesting prior to the discussion, and b) the discussion questions in advance as well as space to answer those questions and cite the text.
Part II: Discussion tracker that is filled out during the class discussions. In order to provide students with scaffolds that would eventually lead to a more organic classroom discussion, students are required to write down a new main point/quote that a peer brings up AND the two other responses that come from the class. The class/group cannot move on with the discussion unless AT LEAST 2 students respond to the question or comment made by a peer.
Template is customizable and it is encouraged to modify for students' needs.
