The article of the week, or AOW, is a fantastic way to ensure that your students are getting everything that they need in order to prepare them for the reading informational text portion of the state test! These AOWs are CCSS aligned and go hand-in-hand with most state standards. They also create a great routine for students to constantly engage in rigorous close reading activities and questioning.

The purpose of these nonfiction AOWs is to expose students to scholarly and rigorous informational texts as well as CCSS state test-type questions in order to completely prepare them for the state test. Students will have multiple opportunities to master each standard as my goal is to provide you enough AOWs to last for the entire school year!

*It is important while working through the CCSS aligned question sets to remind your students that there may be multiple answers that could be correct, but often times, they must choose the BEST answer. This is why I have made many answer choices similar or good, but there is always a BEST answer!

If you have any questions at all about AOWs, please feel free to contact me at ay point in time. I hope you find this AOW just as useful as I do in my own classroom! My students have thus far enjoyed the various topics that are covered in the articles, and they have found the activities and questioning challenging.
