The purpose of this lesson is to analyze primary and secondary sources to understand the strengths and weaknesses of the Articles of Confederation. Students will investigate different perspectives on the Articles of Confederation to understand its weaknesses and how the weaknesses made an impact on the new nation.
This is an engaging lesson that will encourage student discussion. Included is a scripted lesson plan, six sources (primary and secondary sources), and questions. Some questions are simple recall questions, since the purpose of the lesson is to learn the Social Studies content using literacy. Other questions are higher-order thinking questions. The ELA connection is included to supplement information already presented in Social Studies to enhance ELA. The lesson concludes with a constructed response (rubric included).
