This is a Powerpoint / graphic organizer combo that discusses the weaknesses of the Articles of Confederation (national military, tax collection, leadership, printing money, loyalty) and how Shays' Rebellion led to a change in government.
There are several guiding questions allowing students to give their opinions and perhaps lead to class discussions. The handout opens with the question, "Why do you think the do you think our early founders designed their new government this way?" I want my students to be able to connect the dots with the treatment received as British colonies to the design of the Articles.
Bullet notes are underlined on the slides for note taking on the organizer. The Shays' Rebellion portion of the organizer is a "cloze" reading style lesson.
Depending on how you use this product (it is 14 slides and a page and a half handout), the guiding questions, if opened to discussion, will likely take more than one class period.
